Keep377A.com is started by a few concerned individuals who feel that perhaps, it is time for the majority to speak their mind
2. Why prompted you to start this website?
We believe that repealing 377A will have an adverse effect on society in the long run and is contrary to what the majority of Singapore is wanting, which is to retain 377A.
3. When was this website started?
www.keep377a.com was launched on 18 October 2007 at 1230 hrs.
4. How was the response from the public and what was the final tally?
The response from the Singaporean majority has been overwhelming. We garnered a total of 15,559 signatures for this petition in under 4 days. A feat which is truly remarkable.
5. What are you doing with this online petition?
The open letter signed online by Singaporeans and a summary of comments made by the petitioners together with a cover letter was emailed to the Prime Minister's office for his consideration.
6. Why were there only 15,559 signatories when your last ID of signatories was clocked at 16,615?
Since the launch on 18 Oct, we obtained a total of 16,165 signatures. However, some of this signatures were spam, contained disrespectful comments or double entry. All these were removed. Further to our official petition close time of 2359 hours on 21 October 2007, we removed all signatories who have not furnished a full name which was essential. Hence, our final number was clocked at 15,559 signatories.
7. Are there future plans being made?
No. The organisers of this site has one objective in mind which is to create a platform for the majority to make their voices heard. We believe our objectives were accomplished.
8. Does that mean this site will be closed shortly?
No. We think Keep377a.com is an unprecedented show of voice by what people deemed as the silent majority. We would like to keep the site going as a marker in Singapore's democratic history.
